Hold On to Your Faith When Everything Says to Give Up | Reverend Rob

There will be moments in life when giving up feels easier than holding on.

You pray, but the answer doesn’t seem to come.

You work hard, but nothing seems to change.

You believe in your purpose, but the circumstances around you keep telling you that maybe it’s time to walk away.

That’s when your faith matters most.

Faith isn’t about believing that everything will always be easy. Faith is choosing to trust God when you don’t understand what He’s doing. It’s continuing to move forward when you can’t see the entire path ahead.

And sometimes, the greatest test of your faith isn’t when everything is going right.

It’s when everything is going wrong.

When Life Says, “Give Up”

Maybe you’re an athlete dealing with an injury.

Maybe you’re sitting on the bench wondering if your opportunity will ever come.

Maybe your career isn’t moving in the direction you expected.

Maybe you’re struggling with confidence, rejection, disappointment, financial pressure, loneliness, or uncertainty about your future.

Or maybe you’re simply exhausted from fighting the same battle over and over again.

I’ve been there.

And I’ve learned something important:

A difficult season does not mean God has abandoned you.

Sometimes we mistake a delay for a denial.

We mistake a closed door for the end of the road.

We mistake a difficult chapter for the end of our story.

But God sees what we cannot see.

Your Current Circumstances Are Not Your Final Destination

One of the most dangerous things you can do during a difficult season is allow your current circumstances to define your future.

You may be struggling today.

That doesn’t mean you’ll always struggle.

You may be overlooked today.

That doesn’t mean you’ll always be overlooked.

You may have failed.

That doesn’t mean you’re a failure.

You may feel lost.

That doesn’t mean you’ve lost your purpose.

Your circumstances can change. Your position can change. Your opportunities can change. Your life can change.

But while you’re waiting for things to change, your faith can keep you standing.

Isaiah 41:10 reminds us:

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.”

Notice what God doesn’t say.

He doesn’t say you will never face difficulty.

He says He will be with you through it.

That’s powerful.

Faith Doesn’t Mean You Stop Fighting

Holding on to faith doesn’t mean sitting back and doing nothing.

Faith and action belong together.

Pray.

Then take the next step.

Believe.

Then keep working.

Trust God.

Then keep preparing.

Ask for the opportunity.

Then make sure you’re ready when the opportunity arrives.

For athletes, this is especially important.

You can’t control every injury, every coach’s decision, every roster move, every statistic, every referee’s call, or every opportunity that comes your way.

But you can control your preparation.

You can control your attitude.

You can control how you respond to adversity.

And you can continue building the person you are beyond the uniform.

Your identity is bigger than your statistics.

Your worth is bigger than your performance.

Your purpose is bigger than one season.

When You Can’t See the Way Forward

There are seasons when you won’t have all the answers.

That’s okay.

You don’t need to know the entire plan to take the next step.

Think about a football field at night. You may not be able to see the entire field, but the lights give you enough visibility to make the next play.

Sometimes faith works the same way.

God may not show you the entire road. He may simply give you enough light for the next step.

Take that step.

Then take another.

And another.

Don’t let the fact that you can’t see the destination convince you that there is no destination.

Your Setback Isn’t Bigger Than Your God

A setback can be loud.

A rejection can be painful.

A failure can replay in your mind.

A disappointing season can make you question everything.

But don’t give a temporary circumstance permanent authority over your identity.

You are not your worst performance.

You are not your biggest mistake.

You are not the rejection you received.

You are not the opportunity you lost.

And you are certainly not finished simply because life became difficult.

Romans 8:28 reminds us that God can work through all things for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

That doesn’t mean every painful experience is good.

It means God can still work through painful experiences.

He can take the chapter you wanted to erase and use it to build something you never expected.

Don’t Quit in the Chapter God Is Still Writing

This may be the message somebody needs today:

Don’t quit.

Not because everything will magically become easy tomorrow.

Not because every prayer will be answered exactly when you want it.

Not because you won’t experience disappointment.

Don’t quit because your story isn’t finished.

The chapter you’re living through right now is only one chapter.

And if you’re still here, there’s still more story to write.

Your comeback may not look like what you imagined.

Your breakthrough may come in a form you didn’t expect.

Your purpose may take a completely different path.

But don’t close the book because you don’t like the current chapter.

Keep turning the pages.

A Prayer for the Person Who Feels Like Giving Up

God,

I’m tired.

There are moments when I don’t understand why I’m going through what I’m going through.

I don’t always understand Your timing.

I don’t always understand Your plan.

But today, I choose to trust You anyway.

When I feel discouraged, give me strength.

When I feel rejected, remind me of my worth.

When I feel lost, guide my next step.

When I feel like giving up, remind me that my story isn’t finished.

Help me keep my faith when I cannot see the outcome.

Help me keep moving when the road is difficult.

Help me remember that my identity is not defined by my failures, my setbacks, my circumstances, or the opinions of other people.

I surrender what I cannot control.

I will do what I can do.

And I will trust You with what I cannot.

Amen.

Your Next Step

If you’re going through a difficult season right now, don’t try to solve your entire life tonight.

Take one step.

Make one phone call.

Send one email.

Finish one workout.

Apply for one opportunity.

Have one honest conversation.

Say one prayer.

Open your Bible.

Get back up.

One step is still progress.

And sometimes, faith isn’t about seeing the finish line.

Sometimes faith is simply saying:

“God, I don’t know exactly where this is going, but I’m not giving up.”

Hold on.

Keep believing.

Keep preparing.

Keep praying.

Keep moving.

Because the season you’re in may be difficult—but it doesn’t have to be the season that defines you.

A Final Word From Reverend Rob

If you’re an athlete, remember this:

You are more than an athlete.

Your sport is something you do.

It is not the totality of who you are.

Your identity, your faith, your character, and your purpose will matter long after the final whistle.

So when the scoreboard says you’re losing, don’t assume you’ve lost.

When the door closes, don’t assume there are no other doors.

When someone tells you that you aren’t good enough, don’t make their opinion your identity.

And when everything around you says “give up,” take a breath, pray, and remember:

God is not finished with you yet.

Keep the faith.

Keep the vision.

Keep moving forward.

Your story is still being written.
